Report on the province of Aleppo and its surroundings 16/05/2012


1. University campus- an ambulance vehicle filled with Assad thugs carry out arrests of students after beating them with electric batons.

2. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- spread of snipers on the minarets of Azaaz city mosque.

3. Faculty of Electrical Engineering- security assault and arrest students after the large protests that took place today in the college.

Security forces violently attack freedom callers that were demonstrating in the faculty of Electrical engineering, many were beaten and then arrested.

4. Faculty of Electrical engineering- 65 students were expelled from the college due to their participation in the demonstrations taking place on the university campus.

5. Kasr grove- security cut off the road opposite Bin Haaritha mosque, as well as carrying out random arrests of citizens passing by in surrounding areas.

6. Hanano housing- a raid of the neighbourhood this evening carried out by four buses filled with Assad thugs as well as police cars and pick-up vehicles near Othman mosque on Al Amaaliah street.

7. Al Sakhour- security forces violently enter the neighbourhood and disperse the freedom callers participating in a demonstration, a patrol station was localised outside Al Durra bakery.

Demonstrations that had fire opened onto:

1. Aleppo city- Kasr grove- gunfire was opened onto an evening demonstration in order to disperse it.

Cases of gunfire

1. Al Hamdanieh- sounds of sporadic shooting was heard after the adjournment of an evening demonstration

Number of times that heavy army equipment was seen ‘tanks and armoured vehicles’

1. Rural Aleppo- Al Baab- Large numbers of army and security units were placed at the entrance of the city along with more than 20 pick-up vehicles loaded with doshka guns and PKC’s.


1. Faculty of Electrical engineering- campaign of arrests of many of the freedom callers from outside the college doors.

2. Al Furqan- two males were arrested from the evening demonstration and remain detained.

3. Kasr grove- random arrests after the evening demonstration that took off in the neighbourhood.

Demonstrations in the city of Aleppo:

Freedom callers that participated in the demonstrations that the province of Aleppo saw today all came out calling for freedom, to topple the regime and to show solidarity and support of the occupied, besieged and uprising cities, especially Aleppo suburbs, as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, and to rebuild a better Syria for all.

1. Faculty of Mechanical engineering- morning demonstration after the sit-in that took place in the faculty where a large independence flag was raised which was later hung in the college.

Special chants dedicated to the Syrian army.

Students chant for their fellow student from the faculty named ‘Mulaath Qassem Agha’ who has been detained for the past 5 months.

2. Faculty of Civil engineering-

3. Faculty of Electrical engineering- large demonstration in the faculty where freedom callers went about removing all security CCTV cameras on the first floor of the building. The Russian flag was burned inside the faculty of Electrical and Electronic engineering. The independence flag was raised inside the lobby of the faculty, revolutionary slogans were  graffitied onto the walls of the college.

Security began to attack the demonstrators with electric batons.

4. Faculty of Electrical engineering- second demonstration after the security attack, large number of injuries as a result of the violent attack, independence flag was hung.

Graffiti campaign of revolutionary writings on the walls of the college in conjunction with the demonstration that took off, walls were painted in the colours of freedom.

Campaign of arrests where many students were arrested from outside college doors.

5. Faculty of Architecture: sit-in became a demonstration

6. Faculty of Science- sit-in became a demonstration

Picture of bashar al assad which was still hung on the wall in one of the faculties was taken down and burned.

Demonstrations in rural Aleppo:

Similarly to the city of Aleppo, all the demonstrations that came out chanted to topple the regime, for freedom, to execute bashar and to show solidarity with the students of Aleppo university on campus against the atrocities committed by the regime,  as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, to show support and solidarity with uprising and besieged cities and with the martyrs of this revolution.

Reported demonstrations with no video footage- Kafar Naya, Tal Rifaat, Anadaan, Qabbaseen, Ibeen, Al Baab, Al Safira.

Peaceful revolutionary activities:

1. Abu Risheh Roundabout: a group of young Syrian males in the city of Aleppo, sit in near Omar Abu Risheh roundabout, in solidarity of the sitters with the Arab thinker Salameh Kileh who was deported by the Syrian authorities to Jordan (who was subjected to physical torture during his stay in the cellars of intelligence when he was arrested before being deported) and in solidarity with the Syrian and Palestinian detainees.

2- Faculty of Science- sit in became a demonstration which chanted in demand of the detainees, revolutionary writings filled college walls

A picture of assad which was previously hung on the college wall was removed and trampled on.

One of the most important banners held in the faculty, greetings sent to occupied Palestine.

3. Faculty of Civil engineering- large sit-in where pictures of martyrs of the revolution were held.

4. Faculty of Architecture- sit in on college stairs chanting in demand of the detainees and in solidarity with Khan Shaikhon, which rapidly became a demonstration.

5. University hospital- large independence flag was raised.

6. Faculty of Mechanical engineering- large independence flag was raised.

7. Faculty of Civil engineering- statement of the freedom callers in the faculty


1. Rural Aleppo- Al Atareb- Ruin inflicted upon the city as a result of the barbaric, indiscriminate shelling by the Assad brigades.
