Report on the province of Aleppo and its surroundings Sunday 13/05/2012


1. Rural Aleppo- Al Baab- martyr ‘Omar Hajj Kareem Al Shehabi’ shot by Assad gangs, targetted as he returned home from Aleppo city, Assad gangs knew he is from the residents of Al Baab town.

2. Aleppo city- Al Hamdanieh- military security break into ‘Al Jassem’ cement distributors office in the neighbourhood, gunfire was opened in the office which resulted in the martyrdom of ‘Rajeh Ibrahim Al Issa’ along with the injury of 7 others who were in the office, as well as stealing what was in the office which was a sum of three million and seven hundred thousand Syrian pounds, a computer and mobile phones of the injured people.


1. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- spread of snipers on the minarets of Haj Fadel mosque

2. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- a school is converted into a military barrack.

3. Aleppo city- Salah Al Din- presence of fully equipped security near Ouwais Al Qarni mosque

Number of times that heavy army equipment was seen ‘tanks and armoured vehicles’

1. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- spread of checkpoints at the entrance of the city which are equipped with tanks and army

Demonstrations that had fire opened onto:

1. Aleppo city- Salah Al Din- live gun fire opened onto demonstrators during a funeral, resulting many injuries.

Cases of gunfire

1. Rural Aleppo- Bayanoun- sporadic gunfire was heard from the checkpoint barrier that separates Bayanoun and Hayyan.

Places that were bombed/ shelled:

1. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- sounds of sporadic shooting was heard in conjunction with the mass evening demonstration, in addition to the fall of two shells on the demonstration, no injuries were reported.


1. Aleppo city- Salah Al Din- confirmed news of the arrest of seven females from the demonstration that came out in Salah Al Din who are now at the Ansari Department.

2. Aleppo city- Al Jamilieh- Security forces and mercenaries denounce the demonstrators, around five freedom callers were arrested, the demonstration was broken up by force.

3. Aleppo city- Al Hillock- security forces attack demonstrators with electric batons, freedom callers were severely hit and some were arrested, exact numbers remain unknown.

4. Aleppo city- ‘Ashraf Wajih Khatib’ a fifth year medical student was arrested from the central park in Aleppo city, after the explosion that was carried out by the regime near the political party building, without clearly knowing any reason for his arrest, it was known that Ashraf was one of the top students in college and had exams after several days.

Demonstrations in the city of Aleppo:

Freedom callers that participated in the demonstrations that the province of Aleppo saw today all came out calling for freedom, to topple the regime and to show solidarity and support of the occupied, besieged and uprising cities, especially Aleppo suburbs, as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, and to rebuild a better Syria for all.

1. Aleppo university- faculty of Electrical engineering- sit-in became a large enthusiastic demonstration.

2. Salah Al Din- funeral demonstration from Ouwais Al Qarni mosque for martyr ‘Abu Hamza Al Halabi’. Live gunfire was opened onto demonstrators.

Demonstrators respond to gunfire by throwing stones.

3. Al Jamilieh- demonstration which took off from Iskandaroun street, the neighbourhood is close to Saad Allah Al Jabri square.

4. Al Miyassar- evening demonstration after Maghrib prayers from Al Rashideen mosque.

5. Sheikh Maqsood- evening demonstration

6. Kasr grove- as per every evening, freedom callers from the neighbourhood came out in a demonstration, which took off from Badr mosque

Reported demonstrations with no video footage- Aleppo university- faculty of Architecture, New Aleppo, Saif Al Dowleh, Al Baab way, Hanano housing, Al Marjeh, Al Hillok.

Demonstrations in rural Aleppo:

Similarly to the city of Aleppo, all the demonstrations that came out chanted to topple the regime, for freedom, to execute bashar and to show solidarity with the students of Aleppo university on campus against the atrocities committed by the regime,  as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, to show support and solidarity with uprising and besieged cities and with the martyrs of this revolution.

As well as funeral of martyr ‘Mahmoud Nasif Al Dunia’ who was martyred a few days ago after he attempted to defect from the army.

Peaceful revolutionary activities:

1. Aleppo university campus- faculty of Architecture-student sit-in which became a demonstration.

2. Aleppo university campus- faculty of Electrical engineering- student sit-in, banners were raised expressing solidarity with the lost martyrs of Aleppo university campus, which became a large demonstration after.

The students put up the names of martyrs on the bulletin board which shows attendance schedules.

3. Aleppo university campus- faculty of Literature and Arts- independence flag was raised over the southern entrance doors despite the presence of security.

5. Rural Aleppo- Maari- campaign to paint the walls of the writings of the Assad army.

6. Aleppo city- Al Miyassar- roads were cut-off preventing any security from reaching the evening demonstration carried out by freedom callers from the neighbourhood.

Defections from the army:

1. Aleppo- defection of first assistant ‘Aslan Mohammad’ from a branch of state security and joining the Free Syrian Army.

Miscellaneous: ‘Today’s leader’

1. Rural Aleppo- Al Safira- arrival of observers to Mahkamah square where they were welcomed by a large demonstration demanding to topple the regime.

2. Aleppo city- freedom callers were released

Young male named Baha Najjar, 14 years old, was kept at air intelligence.

3. Al Maady neighbourhood- parents of martyr Hani Fadawi, also named abu Hamza Al Halabi pray for their martyr in Al Hassan w Al Hussein mosque, he will be buried after in Al Safira cemetery.

4. Rural Aleppo- Maari- A meeting with activists, freedom callers show their preparations and equipment before a demonstration.
